Rishikesh: A fierce argument broke out between a woman tourist from Haryana and the local police after she was stopped from drinking near the banks of the holy Ganga river in Rishikesh, a famous religious destination in Uttarakhand. This video is now going viral on social media.

The woman was seen drinking alcohol in a holy area near the Ganga river. She had an argument with the police who came to stop her. She started a brawl by shouting. It is said that the incident took place on April 6 near the Phool Chatti area on Neelkanth Marg.
During the verbal altercation, the woman is seen saying “Tumhari Roji Roti Hamse Chalti Hai” (Your life is running on us).
She came as a tourist and drinks with her own money. She has lashed out saying that tourists are being unfairly targeted. The woman’s husband then intervened and took her away. Till then, the woman had been fighting with the police.
Rishikesh is a famous spiritual destination and in many areas, alcohol and non-vegetarian food are strictly prohibited to protect the sanctity of the holy river. But with such incidents happening frequently, there are also discussions on social media about personal freedom.
A netizen attacked the woman, saying, “Madam, your money is welcome, but Ganga is not your personal bar stool. Come for peace and spirituality, don’t come to make the holy riverbank a party spot. Respect this holy place or stay home.”
