Bengaluru, Feb 10: A huge balloon used for advertising purposes was flown illegally inside the restricted operations area of Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), a serious violation of aviation safety norms and has raised security concerns, police said on Monday.

According to the police, although the incident took place on January 5, the complaint was lodged by L. Nagendran, Aviation Security Group (ASG) of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on February 8.
Nagendran said in his complaint that a balloon bearing the name ‘BCD Construction’ was seen flying illegally in the KIA operations area on January 5.
Noticing this, the ASG/BDDS personnel immediately stopped it and checked it.
“After verification, the balloon bearing the name ‘BCD Construction’ was found to be in the red zone/no-fly area (as per DGCA guidelines) of KIA,” Nagendran said.
The act was a violation of DGCA guidelines within the airport’s restricted area, the FIR said. A case has been registered in this regard and further investigation is underway, police said.
