Indian Air Force Sukhoi-30 fighter jet crashes – pilots killed

Assam: A Sukhoi 30 MKI fighter jet, which went missing after losing radar contact, crashed in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district, killing two pilots, the IAF said on Friday.

The Su-30MKI fighter jet, which was on a training mission, crashed in the Karbi Anglong area, about 60 km from Jorhat, on Thursday, the Indian Air Force (IAF) said in a statement.

“Sqn Ldr Anuj and Lt Purvesh Duragkar, who were seriously injured in the incident, have died. The Indian Air Force said it stands firmly with their families in this hour of grief. Contact with the Russian-origin aircraft was lost at 7:42 pm yesterday.

Su-30MKI fighter jet: The Su-30MKI is a two-seater fighter aircraft developed by Russian aircraft manufacturer Sukhoi. It is now built under license by HAL for the Indian Air Force. There are over 260 Sukhoi 30 fighter aircraft in the Indian Air Force.

Previously, a Sukhoi fighter aircraft crashed in Maharashtra’s Nashik district in June 2024. Another Sukhoi-30 fighter aircraft crashed after take-off from Gwalior airbase in January 2023.
