Bengaluru: Karnataka to generate 25,000 MW of green energy in next five years

Bengaluru: Karnataka will increase its renewable energy generation to 25,000 MW in the next five years. Several policies have been formulated to achieve this target, said Additional Chief Secretary, Energy Department, Gaurav Gupta.

He said that the target of 25,000 MW should be achieved with the cooperation of investors and people.

He was speaking at the launch of the book “How Can India Make Its Renewable Future, a Responsible One” at an event jointly organized by Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Corporation Limited (KREDL) and Energy, Environment and Water Board (CEEW).

There are several challenges to achieving this target, including land acquisition. People are worried about the impact on their livelihoods and investors see it as an obstacle. But he said that renewable energy needs to be conveyed that it is essential for the development of the country.

Land acquisition and land conversion processes have been simplified. Special online portals have been created to make land conversion easier for farmers. Investors can start renewable energy projects after discussing with farmers and registering online, he said.
