Mangalore: Karnataka Grameena Bank, which has been steadily growing through its impactful and constructive initiatives, has achieved a significant milestone at the national level. The Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, has conferred a national award recognizing the Bank’s outstanding contribution to rural economic empowerment, particularly through Self-Help Groups (SHGs). For the FY- 2024-25 at the National Conference on Financial Literacy & Capacity Building and the 25th Central Level Coordination Committee (CLCC) Meeting, held recently in Hyderabad. The award was received on behalf of the Bank by its General Manager, V M Rukmini Devi.


Expressing his happiness, the Chairman of the Bank, Shreekant M. Bhandiwad, stated that this recognition reaffirms Karnataka Grameena Bank’s pioneering role in rural development and financial inclusion.He further noted that, under the Government of India’s “One State – One Rural Bank” policy, the merger of two regional rural banks in the state has strengthened the institutional framework and enhanced the Bank’s capacity to support regional development.Aligned with the objectives of the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), the Bank continues to work towards the economic empowerment of rural women through SHGs. So far, it has extended credit of ₹2,835 crore to 80,904 SHGs, contributing significantly to livelihood generation and financial inclusion.
The Chairman also added that this award further increases the Bank’s responsibility, and it will continue to expand its efforts towards inclusive and sustainable rural development in the coming years.
