Mangalore: A new milestone in advanced dermatological care was marked on 13 February at Father Muller Medical College Hospital with the blessing and commissioning of the latest Stellar M22 laser platform by Lumenis. The state-of-the-art system was blessed and inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions. This installation represents the first-of-its-kind multi-application laser platform in Mangalore, ushering in a new era of skin health and aesthetic treatment in the region.
In his address following the blessing, Fr. Faustine expressed gratitude to God Almighty for the gift of the technology and thanked the vendor for making it available at a highly reasonable cost. He noted that the continued blessings upon the institution have enabled steady upgradation of facilities for the benefit of patients. He added that the machine’s wide range of capabilities will enhance patient confidence while strengthening the department’s clinical expertise.
Mr. Navdeep Sharma, Country Manager – India & South Asia, Lumenis, quoted a hymn line, “Guide me to the path of light,” and observed that this was the first Lumenis machine in India to be blessed in the year 2026. He also mentioned that the commissioning date coincided with the 61st birthday of the company’s Regional President, Qiying Zhai, who played a key role in facilitating approval of the acquisition. He conveyed his best wishes to the management and department, hoping that many patients would benefit from the new technology.
Dr. Udhav Patil, renowned plastic surgeon from DY Patil University, was acknowledged for his association and will be sharing his 25 years of experience with Lumenis systems during the Dermatology Department’s CME and workshop series scheduled from 13–15 February 2026.

Dr Jerome, Senior Resident, helped with the prayerful singing. The programme was compered by Dr. Divya Madonna D’Souza, Senior Resident, in the presence of Dr. Michele Fernandes, Head of the Department, and the full faculty and staff of the Department of Dermatology.
