Almora, Nov 24: A few days after about 3,000 kg of explosives were found in Haryana in connection with the Delhi blasts, a huge quantity of explosives has now been found near a school in a village in Uttarakhand.

161 gelatin sticks weighing more than 20 kg were found in a bush near a government high school in Dabara village of Almora district. Police said that a search was conducted in the nearby areas.

Principal Subhash Singh, who noticed a suspicious packet in the bushes, informed the police. Immediately two police teams rushed to the spot and inspected.

Bomb disposal squad and dog squad were called from Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital districts and a complete search was conducted. During this, some packets of gelatin sticks were found in the bushes. Some more packets were found about 20 feet away and were collected by the bomb disposal squad.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Devendra Pincha said 161 gelatin sticks were recovered from bushes near a school in Dabra village. Gelatin sticks are explosives commonly used to blast rocks for construction and mining purposes. He said they were investigating the source of the explosives.

The police have registered a case against unknown persons under Section 4(A) of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908 and Section 288 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Four teams have been formed for further investigation, SSP Pincha said.
