Mysore, Nov 24: It has been reported that teachers of a government higher primary school have cleaned the school toilets by drawing water from the sump.

The incident took place a few days ago in Bilagerehundi village in Varuna assembly constituency, represented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The incident came to light when a villager named Siddharaju visited the school to pick up his daughter from the Anganwadi.

I saw children drawing water from the sump in the school premises. At first, I thought someone had fallen. When I asked them, the students said that the teacher had asked them to fetch water and clean the toilets.
I recorded the incident on my cellphone and filed a complaint with the Block Education Officer (BEO). As per the BEO’s instructions, I later filed a written complaint, said Siddharaju.
This incident is particularly worrying as a student died after falling into a sump in Kolar recently. I urge the DDPI to take action against the headmaster. He said that schools should appoint proper staff to clean the toilets.
DDPI S.T. Javaregowda has instructed the BEO to investigate this and submit a report. Based on the information, action will be taken against the teachers, he said.
