Chennai, Oct 10: Actor-politician and Tamil Nadu Vetri Kalagam (TVK) chief Vijay has received a bomb threat call at his Chennai residence after the Karur stampede. The call comes amid criticism against Vijay after a stampede at a TVK rally in Karur district left 41 people dead and several injured.

Security has been beefed up around Vijay's Neelankarai residence as a precautionary measure. No explosives were found, officials have confirmed that it was a hoax call. Police have launched an investigation to trace the source of the hoax call and identify the person or group.

He himself has made video calls to several grieving families after the Karur stampede incident to console them. He assured them of help and said he would meet them personally soon.

Meanwhile, controversies and legal challenges related to the incident have increased. The Madras High Court had taken Vijay to task for allegedly leaving the scene after the incident.

Vijay's party, TVK, has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking an independent probe, alleging that the court-ordered Special Investigation Team (SIT) was acting in a biased manner. The father of the 13-year-old boy who died has also filed a petition for a CBI probe into the Karur stampede.
