Mangaluru: Timely reforms and learning lessons from history is necessary for the development of society, opined State University of Cortland (USA), Department of History Chair Prof. Kevin Sheets.  

He delivered a special lecture on “The Word and the Stick: American Literature& Reforms in the 19th Century” during a program organized by the Department of English of University College Mangalore here on Tuesday. He spoke on 19th and 21st century literature and reforms in America. “It is a pleasure to deliver a lecture about America in India,” he said.

Dr. Rajalakshmi NK, retired head of the English department of the college, said that the lecture on American literature is helpful to the students to understand the development of literature with the state. Presiding over the event, Principal-in-charge Dr. Harish A opined that it was a rare opportunity to hear a lecture from an American resource person.

English Department Head Dr Ganapathi Gowda was present. Final year UG student Merwin Samson Spinoza mastered the ceremony. Shravya welcomed the guests. Teachers and students from various departments were present on the occasion.
