Indian oil marketing companies (OMCs) have announced deep cuts in LPG prices of 19 kg cylinders. The prices were reduced by Rs 41 to Rs 44.5 across metro cities. However, prices of 14.2 kg cylinders were unchanged. Notably, 19 kg of LPG is above Rs 1,900 in Chennai, more expensive than prices in Delhi and Mumbai, where LPG is below Rs 1,800 per cylinder.

LPG prices are revised regularly, influenced by fluctuations in global crude oil rates and other economic factors. While commercial LPG rates have seen frequent adjustments, domestic LPG prices—used for household cooking—remain unchanged in this revision, providing stability for residential consumers.

Commercial LPG price fluctuations directly affect restaurants, hotels, and other establishments that depend on these cylinders for daily operations. Although businesses will benefit from the Rs 41 reduction, previous hikes have impacted their budgets. Small businesses, which heavily rely on LPG for cooking and heating, continue to feel the pressure of frequent revisions.
For households, the unchanged domestic LPG rates offer some relief, ensuring stable costs for everyday cooking needs. As market conditions evolve, further price adjustments remain possible in the coming months. LPG prices vary from state to state, depending on local taxes and transportation costs. Businesses across the country will benefit from the reduced rates, though the change is marginal.
