Dharwad: Shreekant M Bhandiwad, Chairman of Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank (KVGB), emphasized that "Clean India" would be the best tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. He made this statement while launching the "Swachhta hi Seva" campaign at Bendre Park in Sadhanakeri, Dharwad on Saturday. He explained that the bank initiated this drive in accordance with the Ministry of Finance's instructions, and it will continue until October 31st.

Bhandiwad also highlighted the significant threat posed by plastic waste, which is causing pollution and harm to humanity. He suggested that a self-imposed ban on using plastic bags would be a positive solution to this problem. The bank, which currently operates 629 branches, has been directed to maintain cleanliness in all branch premises. Furthermore, the bank has instructed the cleaning of public parks in the vicinity of its branches and already identified 350 such areas were cleaned Bhandiwad added.

During the cleanliness drive, all staff members actively participated by personally wielding brooms. The Chairman and General Managers of the bank also joined this effort, removing numerous bags of tobacco packets, alcohol bottles, polythene covers, and cigarette butts.
