New Delhi: In the wake of the heinous terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the Cabinet Committee on Security has taken several important decisions. Some important tough decisions were made in the two-and-a-half-hour high-voltage meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. Some diplomatic decisions were taken as the first step in the wake of the Pahalgam attack.
Most importantly, the Indian government has decided to cancel the Indus River Treaty with Pakistan and has instructed to close the Attari border with immediate effect. The Indian government has decided to cancel all military operations there. Along with this, 25 out of the 55 diplomats in India have been instructed to leave the country within a week. Pakistani nationals in India have been given 48 hours to leave the country, the government has ordered.
The central government has said that no visas will be issued to Pakistani nationals, and the visas already issued will be cancelled in 48 hours. The government also has the option of military action, which has also been discussed in the CCS. The Ministry of External Affairs has not given any information on this.
All-party meeting tomorrow: An all-party meeting has been called tomorrow to discuss the situation related to the terror attack, and Home Minister Amit Shah and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will speak to all parties about this.
Recognizing the seriousness of this terrorist attack, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has decided on the following measures, a spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs told a press conference.
1. The Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 will be suspended with immediate effect until Pakistan renounces its support for cross-border terrorism.
2. The Attari Integrated Check Post between India and Pakistan will be closed with immediate effect. Those who have crossed the border from here with valid consent will be asked to return through this route by May 1.
3. Pakistani nationals will not be allowed to travel to India under the SAARC Visa Waiver Scheme. Any SPES visas previously issued to Pakistani nationals will be cancelled. Any Pakistani national currently in India under a SPES visa will have 48 hours to leave India.
4. The Defence, Military, Naval and Air Advisers at the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi have been declared persona non grata. They have been given one week to leave India.
5. India will recall Army, Navy and Air Force officers from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, Pakistan. These posts in the respective High Commissions have been abolished.
