Mangalore: The problem of drug addiction may not be new. But now two people die of drug addiction every hour in India. Most of them are below 35 years of age, notedIrfa Ayesha of Department of Criminology, Roshani Nilaya College.

Delivering a lecture on the occasion on ‘Drug Free Day’ organised by NSS, PG Department of History and Archaeology and PG Department of Hindion the occasion of Mahanta Shivayogi's birth anniversary at Dr. Shivarama Karantha Sabhabhavana here on Thursday, she said, a person consumes drugs for various reasons. Before realizing it, he becomes its slave. A drug addict is ready to go for any extent for momentary pleasure. He will not only destroy himself but also become a danger to the society.”

Principal Dr. Anasuya  Rai, in her presidential speech, said that PG students have a responsibility to create awareness about the dangers of drugs. PG Department of Hindi Coordinator Dr. Nagarathna N Rao welcomed the guests. Coordinator of PG Department of History and Archaeology Dr. Meenakshi M. M extended vote of thanks. NNS Program Officer Dr. Gayathri N and others were on the stage.

Post Graduate Department of EconomicsLecturer Shama INM mastered the ceremony. Lecturers and students from various departments were present. At the end of the event all the participants took a pledge against drugs.
