Puttur:  St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur, inaugurated a Faculty Induction Programme for lecturers newly appointed during the current academic year. The initiative aims to orient the fresh recruits to the ethos of the institution, innovative teaching practices, and contemporary academic demands.

The programme was formally inaugurated by the Vice-Principal, Dr Vijaykumar Moleyar, who delivered the presidential address. In his speech, Dr Vijaykumar emphasized the dynamic and creative nature of teaching as a profession. “Teaching is a vibrant, creative process. Continuous learning is an inseparable component of effective teaching. A true teacher not only delivers lectures but also inspires students to strive for excellence. Love and respect for one’s work are the hallmarks of a great educator,” he remarked.

Dr Vijaykumar also underlined the necessity of adapting to rapid changes in global education. “The world is changing swiftly. Emerging technologies are transforming teaching methodologies, and students’ needs are evolving significantly. As educators, it is our collective responsibility to prepare ourselves for these shifts. The moment we stop learning, our growth as teachers begins to stagnate,” he added.

The inaugural session began with an invocation led by Sriraga, lecturer in the Postgraduate Department of Commerce. Dr Edwin D’Souza, Coordinator of the Staff Development and Appraisal Cell as well as the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), extended a warm welcome to the participants and offered a note of gratitude. Suraksha S, a member of the Staff Development and Appraisal Cell, compered the programme.

The five-day series of sessions will feature senior faculty members from the college sharing their expertise on topics such as research methodologies, code of conduct and ethics in the teaching profession, classroom management and the creation of digital learning resources. The induction programme is designed not merely as an orientation but as a platform to foster collegiality, innovation, and pedagogical excellence among the newly appointed lecturers.

New faculty members who joined St Philomena College for the academic year 2025–26 attended the inaugural session and expressed their enthusiasm for the enriching experience ahead.
