Mangalore:  Father Muller College of Physiotherapy, a unit of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, celebrated World Down Syndrome Day for the third time with the vibrant event EMBOLDEN-2024, themed "End the stereotype." The event, held on March 21, 2024, at Muller Mini Hall 1st floor Convention Centre, brought together children of various special schools, guests, speakers, and supporters to raise awareness about Down Syndrome and promote inclusivity.

The event was graced by esteemed guests, including Dr. Vivekananda Bhat, Assistant Professor Dept. of Medical Genetics at KMC, Manipal, who holds invaluable insights into managing pediatric disorders, emergencies, and intensive care unit monitoring; The Guest of Honour, Chaitra S MSC SPS Associate at Amazon, a regular at the physiotherapy department and a member of the community being celebrated, added a special touch to the event.

The event was presided over by Rev. Fr. Richard Aloysius Coelho Director FMCI, Rev. Fr. Ajith B. Menezes Administrator FMCOP, Rev. Fr. Jeevan George Sequeira Administrator FMMCH, Prof. Cherishma D'Silva Principal FMCOP, Dr. Antony Sylvan Dsouza Dean FMMC, and Anupama K. the Organizing Secretary.

During his speech, the chief guest highlighted the positivity and unity felt upon entering the event. He emphasized the importance of coming together and providing multidisciplinary care, stating that while a cure is sometimes possible, care is always necessary.

The Director of FMCI, in his address, praised the open and sincere nature of the special children present, noting their ability to exude positivity in a world often tainted by negativity and hate. He urged everyone to learn from these children and remain unadulterated by negativity.

EMBOLDEN is an annual event and the only known one of its kind held in South India. The event was made possible with the support of sponsors including Father Muller Charitable Institution, Canara Bank, MCRT, Ladies Circle, School Book Company, Vikas Publishers, and Mangalore Meri Jaan Media Partner, as well as all anonymous contributors. It provides a platform for children with Down syndrome and other disabilities to participate in various activities throughout the day, showcasing their talents and winning prizes. This year, children from several special schools, including St Agnes Special School, St Mary's Special School, Manasa Special School Udupi, Arunodaya Special School, Hidaya Residential School for special kids Bantawal, Asha Nilaya Special School, Bethany Jeevan Jyothi Special School Kadaba, Chetana Special School Karkalla, Karunya Special School Udupi, Noor ul Furqan Special School, Christaraj Navachetana Venoor, Spoorti Special School, Arivu Special School Centre participated in the event.

The ceremony included a welcome speech by Prof. Cherishma D'Silva, a vote of thanks by  Anupama K., and was hosted by Anrick and Jonica. EMBOLDEN-2024 successfully highlighted the importance of ending stereotypes and promoting inclusivity for individuals with Down Syndrome, reaffirming the commitment of Father Muller College of Physiotherapy to providing holistic care and support.
