Mangalore: Urbanization, pollution and natural disasters are causing a huge loss to the flora and biological diversity. "They have no voice, no right to vote, so we must rise voice for them," said Karnataka Biodiversity Board former chairman Ananath Hegde Ashisara.
Inaugurating the two-day National Workshop on "Animal Diversity and Taxonomy" organized by the Department of Applied Zoology of Mangalore University as part of International Science Day-2022ʼ here on Monday, he said that the Karnataka Bio-Diversity Board has submitted an expert report on the endangered species of flora and fauna in 2021. The government should push for environmental protection right from the Gram panchayat-level. ”The sea wall which prevents sea erosion along the coast is causing biodiversity destruction. Instead, they have to implement ‘green cover’, ”he added.
Presiding over the function, Mangalore University Vice Chancello rProf. P Subrahmanya Yadapadithaya said, "National Science Day is very relevant. Science boosts our confidence. Promoting the popular call for ‘Sab kasaat sab kavikas, sab kavishwas’, though we have diversity, everyone should work for the development of all, including nature.”
