New York, Dec 09: A Telangana-origin student has died in a fire tragedy in Albany, US.


The student who died in the fire has been identified as Sahaja Reddy from Jangaon district of Telangana. The fire was initially reported in an adjacent building and then spread to Sahaja's house. It is reported that she was asleep when the fire broke out and could not be saved.
“We are deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Sahaja Reddy Udumala, an Indian-origin woman who lost her life in a house fire in Albany. We express our deepest condolences. The Consulate is in touch with the victim’s family and is providing all possible assistance,” it said.
Sahaja Reddy was the eldest daughter of Udumala Jayakar Reddy, a TCS employee in Hyderabad, and Gopumaria Shailaja, a government primary school teacher. Sahaja had moved to the US in 2021 for higher studies.
She was residing in Albany, New York. The parents have sought government assistance to bring their daughter’s body back from abroad.
Sahaja’s cousin Ratna Gopu has created a GoFundMe page. The fund will cover funeral and transportation arrangements, support for the family, and additional expenses incurred due to the tragic accident.
