New Delhi, Dec 09: Former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu's wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu, who had come under fire from the high command for saying that Rs 500 crore should be given for the Chief Minister's post, has been suspended from the party.

Navjot Kaur Sidhu's statement on December 6, 'Rs 500 crore. The person who gives a suitcase will sit in the Chief Minister's chair' was the reason for the political row. The Congress has taken this action two days after making the statement. Navjot Kaur Sidhu had alleged that Rs 5 crore was taken to give a ticket to Congress candidate Karanbir Singh Burj in the Tarn Taran by-election. The total amount has reached 11 crore. All this was done on the orders of senior leaders. Several councilors are ready to testify in this regard. He had said that he had recordings of the phone calls.

After facing strong opposition to his statement, Navjot Kaur Sidhu later retracted his statement on social media. He clarified that the Congress had never asked him for any money. But the high command had already taken action before this. The controversy raises new questions about the relationship between the Sidhu couple and the Congress. Navjot Singh Sidhu has been away from party activities for a long time and his wife's recent statement has further complicated the situation.
