Mangalore : The Roshni Alumni Association (regd.) (RAA) in association with the National Institute of Personnel Management, (NIPM)Mangalore chapter and the HR forum – Roshni Nilaya, department of MSW conducted a one-day national conference on “People Management: Issues and Concerns”. The conference was held at the Maria Paiva hall on the campus of School of Social Work .The Chief Guest at the Inaugural was the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University, Prof.Yadapadithaya.
Addressing the gathering after he lit the lamp to signify its launch, Prof.Yadpadithaya, who was visiting the college for the first time after taking over as Vice-Chancellor, said HR has come a long way; it has changed its nomenclature and role many a time over in the last few decades from Personnel Management to Human Resources Management and now Human Resource Development. But the key dimensions remain the same and they have to be addressed for the organization to progress. "There are nine dimensions of organization that have to be managed effectively for an organization to succeed, and the first and foremost dimension is people". He added, “I am delighted to be among the distinguished Alumnae of this institution, an institution today I’ve visited many a time over the past, and to learn that they are giving back to the Institution in many ways.”
Joining Prof.Yadapadithaya on the dais, was Prof. Juliet CJ, Principal, Roshni Nilaya, and DiwakarKadri, Chairman, NIPM, Mangalore Chapter, Kishore Attavar, President, Roshni Alumni Association, and Dr. Sebastian, Faculty Coordinator – HR Forum, Roshni Nilaya.
Dr. Juliet CJ, delivering her presidential address said that the RAA was doing wonderful work in the Campus and among the Alumnae, bringing them together for the benefit of the institution in many ways. She said she was delighted that the Alumnae, are eager to impart their acquired knowledge to the current generation of students and hoped they will continue to do so.
The conference was addressed by five eminent alumni of the Roshni Alumni Association – S.N. Gopinath, Past Chairman, NIPM Karnataka Chapter, Bengaluru – Challenges of HR in People and Discipline Management; H.N.Somashekarappa, Director, People Excel Consulting, Bengaluru: Management of People at Work: Challenges in Diverse Business Models; Bhīma Rao, HR Advisor, Bengaluru: Specialist HR Functions to meet challenges in diverse business models; and Ravi Chandra Bekal, Founder & Consultant, R.B. Consultancy Services, Bengaluru: Current Scenarios of HR and needs of revising syllabus of HR & Social work Education; and Asst. Prof. C. Odyssey Singh, the faculty in the PG department: Natural Calamities and the issues regarding flood relief from the HR & CSR perspective.
While the conference was a part of the homecoming celebrations of the Roshni Alumni Association for its members, it also aims to plow back the experiential knowledge base of its alumni into its Alma Mater for the wider benefit of its students and society.
The papers presented at the conference by these eminent alumni will be published by the college in the Adelaide Journal of Social Work.
More than 150 delegates attended the conference from the more than ten Institutes of Social Work in Mangalore and other Management Education Institutions across the city and neighboring Kerala state. Delegates include faculty teaching HR in these Institutions, faculty, field practitioners and many others from various disciplines related to HR like law, CSR, criminology, Corporate / Organizational Psychology etc.
Dr. Olinda Pereira, Founder Principal of the MSW Department of the Roshni Nilaya, and mentor to all the alumnae present on the occasion was the chief guest at the Valedictory. She is 92. She said she was delighted to be among her students once again and hoped the association would continue. Dheeraj Shetty, GM – HR of JBF Petrochemicals represented the NIPM at the Valedictory.
