Mangalore : The World Pharmacy Day was celebrated by the Father Muller Medical College Hospital Pharmacy with great gusto at the Utility building Pharmacy. The purpose of World Pharmacists Day is to encourage activities that promote and advocate for the role of the pharmacist in improving health in every corner of the world.

Sr Sylvia Fernandes, Incharge, Medical Store, welcomed the guest and gathering to the small yet meaningful celebration of the day. The pharmacy staff sang a song of praise to the Almighty followed by the presidential address by the Director of FMCI, Rev. Fr Richard A Coelho, who praised the efforts of service put in by the pharmacy staff in providing accurate medication with faster service to the needy. He said that the pharmacy is like the hand and leg of the hospital. The sick get better with the medicines dispensed by the pharmacist. The daunting task of working in a pharmacy with walking patient prescriptions of 2,300 per day, besides that of running three pharmacy counters in the hospital premise has been well oiled by the coordinated efforts of all the staff working with pride and a smile on a day to day basis. The efforts put in the collective yet effective work in the pharmacy has resulted in the Bureau Veritas certification of the Pharmacy as re certification. He prayed for goodness of health for the families of the staff working selflessly in the pharmacy and hospital.

With a resounding request and applause by the audience, Rev. Fr Rudolph Ravi D’Sa, delivered his address in Kannada which enthralled the gathering. He firstly wished all gathered a happy Pharmacy day and was astonished with the fact that all the pharmacy staff adorned a beautiful smile which he quipped that it continues every single day so as to better the service toward the customer who is king. He praised the efforts put in by the staff and hoped they continue their service with a nature of vocation. Sr Sylvia was appreciated for her work ethics and calm demeanour, which has been appreciated by all working under her, and her value of the human over work. In the end he said do not worry if the other is working or not but self asses and work with pride, if not your seniors the Lord Almighty watches over and will bless you.
