New Delhi, Sep. 04: Haryana's most wanted gangster Manpal Badli was arrested in Cambodia about 10 days ago in a joint operation by Indian security agencies and Haryana Police. Intense efforts are being made to bring Badli, who is accused of several serious crimes including murder, to India.
Badli had fled abroad after being released on parole from an Indian jail on August 29, 2018. He had continued his underworld operations from abroad, police said. His arrest in Cambodia is being described as a major success in the efforts to curb illegal activities. Haryana Police had announced a reward of Rs 7 lakh for information leading to his arrest.
Badli's underworld life began in 2000 with the murder of his uncle. Starting out as a tractor repairman, he was known for his brutality and organised crime. He was accused of planning murders even while in jail and was at the top of the Haryana Police's most wanted list. Indian agencies arrested him with the help of local authorities in Cambodia. This shows cooperation in preventing cross-border crime.
Badli's arrest will strengthen India's fight against organised crime. Indian agencies are in the process of bringing him back soon. This development will send a warning message to other criminals who might try to escape by fleeing across the border. Once Badli is brought back to India, the focus will be on cracking down on his organised network, in addition to taking action against the serious charges against him.
