Mangalore, April 04: Sagarmala is a flagship programme of the Ministry of Port’s, Shipping & Waterways to promote port-led development in the Nation. On Sagarmala’s completion of successful 07 years New Mangalore Port Authority is commemorating the day. A media briefing programme in view of the same was held on 04th April 2022 at Business Development Centre Auditorium at 3:30 PM. Dr. A. V. Ramana, Chairperson, NMPA presided over the celebration and Shri. K. G. Nath, Dy. Chairperson, NMPA was guest of honour. Traffic Manager, Shri Y. R. Belagal welcomed the gathering on this occasion.

The concept of Sagarmala was approved by the Union Cabinet on 25th March 2015. As part of the program, a National Perspective Plan (NPP) for the comprehensive development of India’s 7,500 km coastline, 14,500 km of potentially navigable waterways and maritime sector was prepared & released by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, on 14th April, 2016 at the Maritime India Summit 2016. The ambitious Sagarmala Program aims to promote port-led development in the country, with the goal of reducing logistics costs for EXIM and domestic trade. Sagarmala had identified nearly 802 projects worth Rs. 5.48 lakh Crore to be executed by 2035 out of which 194 projects worth Rs. 99,000 Crore have been completed. A total of 29 projects worth Rs. 45,000 Crore have been successfully implemented under PPP model, thus, reducing the financial burden on the exchequer. Further, there are 218 projects worth Rs. 2.12 lakh Crore under construction and expected to be completed in 2 years time. This apart, 390 projects worth Rs. 2.37 Lakh Crore are under development pipeline.

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways through Sagarmala had identified 10 projects for New Mangalore Port Authority of worth Rs. 1336 crores across the areas of Port connectivity, Port Modernization, Port-led Industrialization and Coastal Community Development. Among ten projects Port has completed 7 projects in the last seven years of total cost Rs. 641 crores, rightly marking the successful years of Sagarmala.

During the event all Department Heads, Senior Officers, Port users and stake holders were present and participated in high enthusiasm.
