Puttur: The Annual General Body Meeting of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of St Philomena Autonomous College was held on Friday at the Silver Jubilee Memorial Hall with thought-provoking deliberations on the role of parents in students’ growth and development.

Delivering the keynote address on “Parental Ideals in Student Development,” Dr H. Madhava Bhat, retired Principal of Vivekananda Autonomous College,Puttur stressed that instead of blaming children for their mistakes, parents should provide constructive feedback and guidance to help them learn. “Every parent is a mentor; their values, behavior, and conduct leave a lasting impression on children. Good parenting is vital to inspire and guide students. Educational institutions too must impart knowledge sensitively, keeping in mind the emotional and mental well-being of learners. True learning must be accompanied by growth, love, and guidance for holistic development,” he said.

Presiding over the programme, Very Rev. Lawrence Mascarenhas, Correspondent of the College, reminded parents of their crucial responsibility. “When children stray onto the wrong path, it is the parents’ duty to bring them back and shape their lives. Parents must also encourage their wards to grow both physically and emotionally,” he emphasized.

Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of the College, delivered the introductory remarks. Gerald D’Costa, Vice President of Mai De Deus Parish Pastoral Committee, appreciated the constant support parents extend to ensure their children’s success.
