Kalaburagi, April 22: Doctors at Shantha Hospital in the city, who reconstructed the face of a woman whose entire face was crushed in an accident, have achieved a remarkable feat by re-establishing the intestines of a person who had shifted to the chest due to diaphragmatic hernia back to the stomach.

Addressing a press conference at the hospital auditorium, Shantha Hospital Managing Director and General Laparoscopic and Laser Proctologist Dr. Sanjeev M.Y. Patil said that Shivamma (40) of Mashal village in Afzalpur taluk, who was sitting on the back seat of the bike, fell off the bike due to dizziness and her face was crushed. He said that the woman's face has now been reconstructed through four hours of continuous surgery.

Due to the severity of the fall from the bike, the woman's lips and nose were completely crushed, and her teeth were separated from her gums. She was suffering from respiratory problems due to severe bleeding and blood entering her respiratory tract through the throat. At this stage, she was immediately admitted to the ICU and necessary treatment was started, he said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Amaresh Biradar, plastic surgeon at Shantha Hospital, said that with the necessary preparations, Shivamma has undergone three stages of supplementary surgeries so far to reconstruct her nose, lips and face. For this, Shivamma has undergone three stages of facial plastic surgery using skin and flesh from the woman's forehead. He informed that in the next few days, dentists will carry out the restoration process of her gums and teeth.

Dr. Amaresh expressed confidence that the woman's face, including her nose, has been reconstructed so far, and she will look like before in the next four weeks.

The intestine that was attached to the chest!

Naganna Patil (50) of Savalagi village had a diaphragmatic hernia (a hernia that separates the chest and abdomen) that he had been suffering from since birth. Due to this, Naganna Patil (50) of Savalagi village had completely shifted his intestines to the chest. Due to this, his left lung was completely damaged, causing breathing problems, severe abdominal pain and vomiting, causing Naganna to lose weight. When he was immediately admitted to Shantha Hospital, it was discovered that he had a diaphragmatic hernia. Gastrosurgeons Dr. Rahul Harwala and Dr. Triveni explained that they successfully reattached Naganna's intestines to the abdomen after a five-hour surgery.

Dr. Triveni said at this stage that Naganna's left lung was filled with water due to a diaphragmatic hernia. A chest tube was inserted to drain the water, and the knotted intestine in the chest was repositioned in the abdomen as before, and a mesh (fence) was installed.

Dr. Sanjeev Patil expressed happiness that Naganna, who was in the ICU for 10 days and on a ventilator for eight days for surgery and post-surgery care, is now fully recovered.

Shivamma Mashala and Naganna Patil, who have undergone surgery and are recovering, were present at the press conference along with Dr. Zubeda of Shantha Hospital.
