A Singaporean ship caught fire in the Indian Ocean. The ship carrying crew members from various countries caught fire in the Arabian Sea off Kerala. The injured have been rescued and brought to Mangalore and are being treated. Four of the 22 crew members have not been found yet. The search operation is ongoing. Even after 56 hours of the incident, the fire on the ship has not been extinguished.
Who is missing: Taiwanese second engineer Yu Bo Fang, Myanmarese carpenter San Win, Indonesian AB Janal Ahidin and Taiwanese motorman Sih Chai Wen are missing.
Chinese-born No. 1 oiler Luenli and Indonesian fitter Sonitur Henry are seriously injured and are being treated at a private hospital in Mangaluru. Doctors said that two of them escaped death. The remaining crew members are staying at a hotel in Mangaluru.
Cargo ship catches fire on the beach
The MV Wan Hai 503, carrying 22 crew members, had left Colombo, Sri Lanka, for Nava Sheva, Maharashtra, on June 7. The ship, which was supposed to arrive on the morning of June 10, caught fire on the afternoon of June 8, 78 nautical miles off the coast of Beypore, Kerala.
The ship's containers were carrying various types of goods, including gunpowder and paint. The entire ship was engulfed in flames. Immediately, the Indian Navy ship INS Surat launched a rescue operation. The Navy and the Indian Coast Guard carried out the rescue operation.
The ship had 8 Chinese, 5 Myanmar, 6 Taiwanese, and 3 Indonesian crew members. Out of these, 18 crew members were rescued and brought to the NMPA Port in Mangalore by ship at 11.30 pm on June 9.
Currently, the Indian Navy is continuing the rescue operation. Ambassadors of all countries are in touch with the authorities here. The investigation will reveal how the fire accident occurred on this ship.
