Udupi: Free food kits were distributed at Udupi Taluk office on Sunday, May 3 by the Dr. G. Shankar Shamili Trust to the 2,000 members of Savitha society in Udupi district.

Inaugurating the program, MLA Raghupati Bhat said Udupi district is in the green zone today as the people of the district have successfully enforced the law during the lockdown. We must give gratitude to the people of the district, district administration, Asha workers, elected representatives and many more to get green zone.

More than 20,000 workers and refugees in the district are being provided with food and other way by the help of donors. No worker and refugees in the district has been left to starve, and the donation of free food to the hardworking workers, rickshaw drivers and fishermen's women in the distribution of food kits has been precious, said Raghupathy Bhat, local MLA.

After delivering a food kit, Dr. G. Shankar said that as soon as Covind 19 started, with the help of the Trust, have provided the necessary equipment to the Department of Health, including the Mask and PPT Kit, at the request of the District. So far 1.5 lakh masks have been distributed and over 25000 food kits have been distributed to more than 125000 beneficiaries through the district administration. Presently all gram pachayats of the districts food kit have been distributed to the poorest of the poor. Some kit also distributed to DK district also, G Shankar said.

He said his trust was always ready to provide the necessary support to the community in times of trouble, and that everyone should work together in the fight against corona virus.

G. Jagadeesh said that with the help of the donors of the district, it is possible to provide the necessary facilities to the refugees and the needy in the district. Due to selfless donation by the donors,  the scope of using district administration money for the needy.

Udupi Tahsildar Pradeep Kurdekar welcomed and delivered vote of thanks. President, Secretary of the Savitha Society Association and representatives of the Savitha Society were present.
