Udupi: Every village panchayat in Udupi district should be set up as a waste unit by the end of December, said District Panchayat President Dinakar Babu.
He presided over the monthly KDP meeting held at the District Panchayat Hall on Tuesday. This is already being implemented in most of the Gram Panchayats in the district. However, this was a setback in the Udupi Taluk Gram Panchayat, which he suggested would be implemented sooner.
Priority for rural hygiene should be checked if toilet is not available in public. It is important to have a toilet system and use it. Due to the Single Pit Toilet, there is a Health Problem. He suggested that a double pit toilet be preferred over the following days. When constructing a new home, be sure to make a double pit toilet. During the allotment of Door number, this must be ensured. Srinivas Rao, Chief Planning Officer of the District Panchayat, said that the people should be aware of this and spread awareness.
The DDPI informed the meeting that motivation camps have been set up in all taluks for students with learning disabilities and that these camps will be further enhanced to benefit the students.
District Health Office said that there were 6 cases of malaria and 5 cases of chikungunya. Awareness programs for disease control are being conducted in the area.
The distribution of fruit saplings under the Horticulture Department is 90% and 150 hectares are under development.
In the surrounding areas of Kundapur taluk, Hemmadi, a large number of farmers are growing Sevanthige flowers and this year the yield has been low. Social justice committee chairperson Shobha Puthran demanded that farmers should be compensated in this regard.
Most of the gram panchayats in the district are using electricity and not paid bills to the MESCOM. It was suggested at the meeting that this should be paid immediately. He said pending payment of electricity bills in the village panchayats should be checked.
District panchayat vice president Sheela Shetty, Education and Health Standing Committee President Pratap Hegde Maradi, chief executive officer Preethi Gehlot, district panchayat deputy secretary Kiran Fadnaker and district panchayat Planning director Gurudat Dutt were also present.
