Engine catches fire – Turkish Airlines flight makes emergency landing in Kolkata

Kolkata, Feb 05: A fire broke out in the right engine of a Turkish Airlines flight carrying 236 passengers on Wednesday afternoon, forcing the plane to make an emergency landing at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata.

The wide-body aircraft, which was operating international services, immediately declared an emergency after the crew detected abnormal signals from the right engine.

Firefighters and rescue teams were deployed along the runway as a precaution. The plane landed safely, and emergency crews extinguished the fire and conducted cooling operations around the engine.

All passengers and crew were evacuated safely through standard procedures and fortunately no one was injured.

All passengers were taken to the terminal and provided necessary assistance. Airport officials said the airline has made onward travel and accommodation arrangements where necessary.
