Heap of notes, Rs 4 crore found in the house of mining officer Mohanty

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Cuttack’s Deputy Director of Mines Debabrata Mohanty was arrested on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a businessman related to the coal business.

After the arrest, officials (Odisha Vigilance officials) raided the properties related to the officer. They simultaneously raided and inspected the Odisha Vigilance flat where Mohanty lived, his parents’ house in Mathsahi, Bhadrak, and the office rooms in Cuttack.

The officials have seized cash in a trolley bag inside the BRS flat.

Odisha’s biggest raid

The money in the trolley bag and the safe is being counted. According to reports so far, the amount of money is said to be Rs 4 crore. The enumeration process is ongoing and local media is describing this as the biggest raid in the history of Odisha. More than one and a half lakh rupees in cash has been found in the drawers of Debabrata Mohanty’s office.

Two luxurious houses like palaces

Debabrata Mohanty owns two luxurious houses like palaces in Bhubaneswar city. More than 130 grams of gold have been found along with the money. ,He had demanded a bribe from the businessman to facilitate the operation of the coal depot and to grant transportation permission.

The matter of Mohanty’s bribe was brought to the notice of the vigilance officials. Mohanty was arrested on Tuesday night while accepting the bribe. After his arrest, the properties related to Mohanty are being inspected.
