Kantara Mockery Row: High Court Pulls Up Ranveer Singh Over Controversial Remarks

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday slapped Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh for mocking actor Rishabh Shetty’s film Kantara in front of a packed stage.

He was accused of mocking the film Kantara during a film festival in Goa. A case was registered against Ranveer Singh for praising actor Rishabh Shetty and calling God a female ghost. A case was registered in this regard at the High Ground Police Station. The High Court, which took up the hearing of the petition today, took Ranveer Singh to task.

One should not speak in a way that hurts the religious sentiments of a section of people. Let it be Ranveer Singh, it is not right to speak as if anyone is right. Ranveer Singh, who is a superstar, has a lot of followers. Therefore, the court has opined that this cannot be taken lightly.

Sajan Poovaiah appeared in court on behalf of Ranveer Singh. Rishabh Shetty has expressed his appreciation for his performance. He has also apologized for the words he spoke. He did not make a statement intentionally. He also informed the court that he will cooperate with the investigation. At the same time, the lawyer for the complainant argued that Ranveer’s wife Deepika is also a Kannada. He should speak about Kannada knowingly.

After hearing the arguments, the court ordered that no coercive action be taken until further orders and adjourned the hearing of the petition to next Monday.

What did the bench say?

What is a superstar.. is not above the law. There are two issues here. Rishabh Shetty has handled the role of the goddess Chamundi. Ranveer may not know about the religious sentiments of the people. He mimicked Rishabh’s acting by calling her a woman a devil. This is really a matter that has hurt feelings… Ranveer should not speak so lightly. Whether you are Ranveer Singh or anyone else, you should not speak so lightly.

As an actor who has an influence on people, Ranveer should be responsible. When he talks about God, he should have spoken with knowledge. God cannot be called a devil. Ranveer does not have the right to hurt someone else’s feelings. Ranveer may have apologized. But, will everything he said go away? People may forget it. But, the Internet does not forget. Artists should be careful while going on stage and doing all this. You cannot say something without knowledge. This cannot be taken so lightly.

Meanwhile, Additional State Public Prosecutor BN Jagadeesh argued that the proper procedure was followed in registering the FIR. This was not treated like any other case. Ranveer was asked to stop his statement on stage, but he continued to make the statement. However, Ranveer’s lawyer denied it, saying that the questionable statement was placed before the court.

The judge then asked, “Who asked Ranveer to stop?” The complainant’s lawyer argued that Rishabh Shetty himself asked him to stop, and he told him not to do so, but he continued.
