Ujire: Media professionals can make the process of shaping public opinion more meaningful by developing a comprehensive understanding of the Indian Constitution, said advocate and senior journalist Veerendra P.M.

Delivering a special lecture on “Media Law and Ethics” organised by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at the SDM Postgraduate Centre, Ujire, on Thursday, he noted that constructive and sharp expression rooted in constitutional values would ultimately strengthen democracy.
Veerendra P.M. observed that in India’s parliamentary democracy, the Constitution remains supreme. The term ‘State’, he said, is closely aligned with reformative democratic ideals, and the Constitution has the power to shape it in progressive, people-centric ways.
He emphasised that journalists and media professionals across platforms must clearly understand constitutional principles to uphold justice and public welfare while promoting social change.The legislature, executive and judiciary function within the constitutional framework, with the judiciary empowered to review laws and correct inconsistencies.
