Mangaluru: Sante, which has expressed concern about the link between cancer and food additives, has suggested that excessive consumption of some food preservatives may increase the risk of cancer and other serious diseases.

The risk of cancer due to consumption of packaged food is higher, and the general public should be cautious about this, according to the research of the NutriNet-Sante study.
Can packaged food items, foods sold in sealed packets, trigger cancer or other deadly diseases? The research has raised the question of whether such foods should be avoided completely.
In an interview, cancer expert Dr. B.B. Singh, who expressed concern about this, said that similar studies have been conducted in the past. But no laboratory has yet provided conclusive evidence proving that consumption of packaged food directly causes cancer or other major diseases.
However, some research has shown that the consumption of packaged food is increased among cancer patients. He said that there is no doubt that packaged food is harmful and can lead to various health problems, especially gastrointestinal disorders.
Foods like juice, milk and bread are beneficial when consumed fresh. But they can be harmful when packaged, he said.
Referring specifically to milk, he reiterated that milk sold in plastic packets can be harmful and should ideally be sold in bottles.
