Bengaluru, Dec 11: After videos of special hospitality given to convicts and undertrials at Parappana Agrahara Central Jail in Bengaluru went viral on social media, Bengaluru Central Jail officials are conducting multiple searches in the jail premises.

The officials raided the jail and seized 14 mobile phones, nine SIM cards, five chargers, 10 sharp objects and two earphones from several barracks.

With this, in the last fortnight, the officials have seized 67 mobile phones, 48 SIM cards and Rs 64,880 in cash and other items.

The seizure of over 60 mobile phones has raised questions about serious security lapses in the jail. Recently, some incidents of smuggling of drugs and mobile phones into the jail have also come to light.

According to a press release, since November 26 till now, the jail authorities have seized 67 mobile phones, 14 chargers, 48 SIM cards, 10 earphones, Rs. 64,480 in cash, 13 sharp objects and other items including cigarettes.

A case has been registered at Parappana Agrahara police station in this regard. Six FIRs have been registered so far.
