Udupi : Karnataka Dalit Sangharsh Samiti of district committee and other leaders of various organizations condemned the gang rape and murder of Dalit young girl in Hathras of Uttar Pradesh and demanded immediate resignation of UP chief minister Yogi Adithyanth.
During the demonstration held near the War Memorial at Ajjarkadu here on Thursday, October 1, a large number of Dalits and others were taken to the effigy of Yogi Adithyanath with a lot of foot-wears in the effigy’s neck and taken in brief procession. The effigy of UP chief minister was later burned.
The activist Harsha Kumar Kugve said to the protesters that those who are following communal hatred are ruling the state and the country. There should be a need to oppose the ruling of such people who hate the lower caste and minorities. Otherwise, all villages of the country become like Hathras situations in the country, he warned.
These people are not given a chance to funeral of the victim according to the religious rituals and the victim’s funeral held without the consent of the parents and victim’s family. Now these people saying that there was not gang-rape held. We must oppose demonstrations against these things. We should strongly condemn what the state government is doing with atrocities on lower caste people, he said.
District Convener of KDSS, Sundar Master said that after assuming the office of chief minister, there is no law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh. Every now and then there have been a few cases of gang-rapes on Dalits in UP. Regarding the law and order situation in UP, Narendra Modi Prime Minister has not opened his mouth. Where is Shobha Karandleje, Smiti Irani, Women MPs, Women MLAs and other women people’s representatives now? Why are they quitting and not speaking on this cruel act in UP? He asks. All these Hindutva, R.S.S. and other Sangh Parivar based leaders want to make atrocities on lower caste people in the country as per their agenda. He strongly condemned the incident held at Hathras, Uttar Pradesh.
District Muslim Okkoota President Yashin Malpe said that if there is no protest when on rape, atrocities on women and children and other injustice, Hathras like situations will surely rise in the country. There is ample partiality with higher caste people and lower caste people, rich and poor, backward and other destinations in the country. If we see justice, such an atmosphere of partiality and injustice is not fair for development. If we see all people are equal in society, then the country will develop, he said.
Fr. William Martis, Amrith Shenoy and Shamprasad Birti spoke during the protest meet. Dalit Sangharsh leaders S S Prasad, Manjunath Balkudru, Sundari Puttur, Yuvaraj, Social activist and thinker Prof. Paniraj, Janardhan Bhandarkar of Congress, Balakrishna Shetty of CPI(M), Charles Amler, Salauddin of District Minority Forum, Vinutha of KRS and others were present.
