NEW DELHI: India's Olympic Organization (IOA) is set to break sponsorship deals with Chinese-based companies, General Secretary of India Rajiv Mehta has said.
India's soldiers are martyred in the conflict between India and China warriors in the Galvan Valley. It is in this backdrop that the country's boycott of Chinese products is heard.
Responding to this, Mehta said, 'We have always been with the country. The Chinese team has sponsored Kit Kit up until the Tokyo Olympics. But for us first comes is our nation. If all members decide, we will end the agreements, ”he added.
'The IOA must break its contract with Li Ning. Respect the feelings of the people of the country, ”said IOA Treasurer Anandeshwar Pandey as he defended Mehta's statement.
The IOA consists of the President and representatives of all national sports federations. Heads and secretaries of state Olympic organizations are also members.
In May 2018, IOA signed with Li Ning. It provides kits for Indian athletes. Its total value will be five to six crores.
