Puttur: St Philomena College takes pride in announcing that two of its Naval Subunit cadets, PO Cadet Nishma and Leading Cadet Dishal Prathima D’Souza from III Bsc, have been selected to participate in the prestigious Rashtriya Ekta Divas (National Unity Day) Parade 2024. The grand celebration will take place at Ekta Nagar, Kevadiya, Gujarat, on October 31, 2024, marking a significant achievement for the cadets and the institution.
Rashtriya Ekta Divas is observed annually on the birth anniversary of first Home Minister India, the “Iron Man of India,” Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The day is dedicated to reinforcing the spirit of national unity and strengthening the integrity and security of the country. This event holds a special place in the calendar of the nation, akin to the grandeur of Independence Day on August 15 and Republic Day on January 26.
The celebrations at the iconic Statue of Unity, located on the banks of the Narmada River, have evolved into a national symbol of unity. The Rashtriya Ekta Divas Parade, much like the Independence Day ceremony at the Red Fort and the Republic Day Parade on Kartavya Path, is recognized as one of the three major national events, reflecting India’s cultural diversity and patriotic fervour.
The parade this year, will feature 16 marching contingents, including personnel from the National Security Guard (NSG), Border Security Force (BSF), National Cadet Corps (NCC), and various state police forces. A key attraction will be the all-women CRPF bikers’ Daredevil show, accompanied by the Women Pipe Band of the BSF and a choreographed presentation by the Gujarat Women Police. Adding to the spectacle will be a special NCC cultural show, a vibrant display by school bands, and an impressive fly-past by the Indian Air Force.
The selection of Cadet Nishma and Cadet Dishal Prathima D’Souza from St Philomena College to participate in such a significant national event not only brings honour to them and the college but also serves as an inspiration to their peers and the community. Principal of the College Rev Dr Antony Prakash Montheiro congratulated the Cadets and Thejaswi Bhat, Naval wing Officer of the college on this joyous occasion.
