Patna: Big news is coming about JDU leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. It is reported that Nitish Kumar will resign as CM and file his nomination for the Upper House of Parliament (Rajya Sabha). After this, BJP will take over as CM. An agreement has been reached to appoint Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant as Deputy CM. This major change is happening just a few months after the NDA alliance returned to power.

It is believed that Nitish Kumar will leave state politics with his entry to Rajya Sabha. However, the reasons for Nitish’s resignation as CM and exit to Rajya Sabha are still not clear. Nitish Kumar has previously served as Agriculture Minister and Railway Minister at the Centre. Nitish, who has been the CM of Bihar since 2015, is the longest-serving CM of the state.
After the 2025 elections, the NDA ally won the chief minister’s post. But Nitish Kumar had to cede several key portfolios to the BJP. He also had to hand over the home ministry, which he had held for almost two decades. With the relinquishment of the home ministry, it became clear that the BJP would have influence in Bihar. Nitish Kumar took charge of the home ministry in November 2005. He held the charge of the department only between May 2014 and February 2015, when he resigned after the JD(U)’s electoral defeat.
