Dr. H. Prabhakar Elected as National Vice President of the Prestigious Indian College of Cardiology

Mangalore: Dr.  H Prabhakar a distinguished Interventional Cardiologist and pioneer in the field, has been elected as the National Vice President of the prestigious Indian College of Cardiology at its National Meet held in Kochi ON 12 September 2026. This prestigious recognition reflects his outstanding contributions to the advancement of cardiology and his dedicated service to the medical community. 

Dr. H Prabhakar has played a pioneering role in establishing and advancing interventional cardiology across Coastal Karnataka, Malnad Karnataka, and North Kerala. He was among the first Interventional Cardiologist in the region to introduce and perform advanced procedures such as coronary angioplasty, device closure of congenital heart defects, valvuloplasty, and several other complex interventional cardiac procedures.

For the past 25 years, he has been heading the Department of Cardiology as Chief Interventional Cardiologist, in Father Medical College Hospital Mangalore and has been associated with more than thousands of  cardiac procedures in the region. His dedication, expertise, and commitment have helped transform the availability of advanced cardiac care for patients across Karnataka. He has been awarded  with state Aryabhata award, state health leadership award.

He also holds the distinction of being the first cardiologist to organize an international cardiology conference in Mangalore, thereby placing the city on the national and international cardiology map. He has actively contributed to the academic advancement of the specialty and has been instrumental in organizing numerous national- and state-level cardiology conferences and academic programmes in Mangalore.

His professional leadership extends beyond clinical practice. He has served as Vice President of the Karnataka Chapter of the Cardiological Society of India and as President of the Mangalore Association of Physicians of India. He has served the Indian College Of Cardiology for the last 15 years at various  positions. Through these leadership positions, he has made significant contributions to professional development, medical education, and the promotion of cardiovascular care.

Dr. H Prabhakar election as  National Vice President of the Indian College of Cardiology is a well-deserved recognition of his 25 years of clinical excellence, pioneering contributions to interventional cardiology, academic leadership, and tireless service to the medical community. This vice presidentship is for a term of one year and this win will be a bone as his expertise will truly enrich teh association and the acdemia in cardiology.
