Bengaluru, September 18: A new bakery unit named ‘Nava Sankalpa Bakery’ has been launched at the Bengaluru Central Prison (Parappana Agrahara). The initiative aims to generate revenue for the government and enable inmates to lead self-reliant lives after their release.
Alok Kumar, Director General of Police (DGP) for Prisons and Correctional Services, inaugurated the bakery unit yesterday, September 17. In collaboration with the HCL Foundation, a ‘Nava Sankalpa Bakery on Wheels’ (mobile bakery) service has also been launched at the high-security prison in Parappana Agrahara.
Plans are in place to sell high-quality bakery products to the public through this mobile bakery at various court complexes and bus stations across Bengaluru.
Training certificates will be awarded to convicted inmates who have completed training in bakery product manufacturing. DGP Alok Kumar inspected the bakery products and commended their taste and quality. He interacted with the inmates and advised them to prioritize hygiene and quality in the production process.
This project is one of the modern bakery units established in the country’s prisons; it aims to foster skills among inmates while offering new hope for their future.
