ISRO Strengthens India’s NavIC System: Successful Launch of NVS-03 Satellite

Amaravati, Oct 31: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully launched its next-generation navigation satellite, NVS-03, aboard a GSLV-F18 rocket.

This marks a significant step toward strengthening NavIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation), India’s independent satellite navigation system. The rocket lifted off at 11:51 PM on Friday from the second launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.

More than 20 minutes after liftoff, the GSLV rocket placed the NVS-03 satellite into its intended orbit. This mission represents the 20th flight of India’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV). Through this launch, the 2,250 kg satellite was placed into a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO).

What are the benefits of the NVS-03 navigation satellite?

NVS-03 is the third satellite in ISRO’s second-generation navigation satellite series. The objective is to ensure the continuity of navigation services through India’s satellite constellation and to enhance their availability. Given that satellite-based navigation systems are of critical importance for civil, commercial, and strategic applications, this mission will help strengthen India’s independent positioning, navigation, and timing capabilities.

Prime Minister Modi Congratulates ISRO

Prime Minister Modi has congratulated the scientists and engineers of ISRO on the successful launch of the NVS-03 satellite. This mission marks a significant step toward further strengthening ‘NavIC’—our indigenous satellite navigation system.

Equipped with advanced capabilities, the NVS-03 satellite will not only bolster our efforts to achieve self-reliance in critical technologies but will also facilitate the provision of navigation services that benefit the public. The Prime Minister noted that the dedication and innovation of our space scientists continue to bring pride to the nation.
