Chennai: Actor and TVK party founder Vijay, who is preparing for the Tamil Nadu assembly elections to be held this year, is facing a problem.
His wife Sangeeta Sornalingam has moved the court in Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu for divorce. She has filed a divorce petition to end her relationship with Vijay.
Sangeeta, a social activist and businesswoman, has requested in her divorce petition that she be given the right to live in the residence where she was married. Vijay should pay permanent maintenance.
Vijay and Sangeeta have been married for 27 years and have two children, son Jason Sanjay, 25, and daughter Divya Sasha, 20. Vijay has not yet responded to the divorce petition.
Incidentally, Sangeeta, who was initially a fan of Vijay, had come to Chennai from the UK to meet her favourite actor in the late 1990s. After meeting Vijay, their fate changed. Reports say that despite their different religions, they both got married.
Vijay is awaiting the release of the much-awaited ‘Jana Nayagan’ before contesting the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections with his party Tamilaga Vetri Kalagam (TVK).
