Major twist in the case of issuing a death certificate to a living person: Fraud committed by the wife exposed

Bengaluru: The strange case of issuing a death certificate to a living person in the capital Bengaluru has now got an explosive twist. Behind this incident, which was thought to be a blunder by BBMP officials, an incredible web of fraud committed by the man’s wife herself has been exposed. She has not only cheated her husband, but also Kidwai Hospital to benefit from the BPL card.

39-year-old Mehboob Basha from Bengaluru had moved the court alleging that the BBMP had issued a death certificate to him despite him being alive. The Birth and Death Registrar of Chikkapet had issued a certificate stating that Basha had died on April 23, 2025. Due to this, Basha’s BPL card was cancelled. Shocked by this, Basha had filed an application seeking cancellation of the death certificate.

Explosive information revealed in the investigation

When the BBMP staff conducted an investigation as per the court’s direction, the real ‘dangerous’ work done by Basha’s wife Shabana came to light. Shabana had treated another person (another person) at Kidwai Hospital using the BPL card and Aadhar card in the name of her husband Mehboob Basha. At every stage of the hospital’s inspection, she had given her husband Basha’s documents and made him believe it. But the person receiving treatment was not Basha, but another person.

On April 23, 2025, that other person in the hospital died without receiving treatment. Since all the documents were in Basha’s name, the hospital and BBMP naturally issued a death certificate in Basha’s name. Shabana herself had also signed the body of the deceased other person as ‘her husband’ and received it from the hospital.

The BBMP, which had issued the death certificate based on the documents, has now come to know the real truth. The wife’s act of using her husband’s documents to obtain a death certificate for someone else’s treatment, even though her husband was still alive, has shocked everyone.
