Faith Over Fate: From Being Called ‘Useless’ to Becoming a Global Voice for Freedom

Cincinnati, Ohio: “Sometimes life buries you not to end your story, but to plant you for a greater purpose.”

In a world where betrayal and rejection can silence even the strongest voices, international inspirational speaker and human trafficking survivor advocate Harold D’Souza is rewriting the narrative, transforming pain into purpose and rejection into a global movement for freedom.

Drawing inspiration from the biblical story of Joseph, betrayed by his own brothers and thrown into a pit, Harold reflects on a deeply personal chapter of his life marked by betrayal from family and friends in his home country. Once made to feel like “trash,” “illegal”, a “dustbin,” and “useless,” Harold’s journey today stands as a powerful testimony of resilience, faith, and divine grace.

“There was a time when I was called names that broke my spirit;trash, dustbin, illegal, useless,” Harold shares with honesty and courage. “But today, by the grace of Good God, I stand tall. What people tried to throw away, God chose to lift up. I was not buried, I was planted for purpose.”

At the heart of Harold’s life philosophy is a powerful belief:Faith,Family First, Not Fate.

“For me, family is built on faith, love, and standing together through storms,” Harold emphasizes. “Fate may shake you, but faith will shape you. When you believe, even betrayal becomes a stepping stone.”

Standing beside him through every challenge is his wife and co-founder of Eyes Open International, Dancy D’Souza.

“Harold’s journey is living proof that faith can turn pain into purpose,” says Dancy D’Souza. “We chose faith over fear, love over hurt, and unity over division. Family is our strength, and together we rise.”

Founded in 2016, Eyes Open International (EOI) is a survivor-led nonprofit organization committed to preventing human trafficking through awareness, education, and empowerment. With a unique promise of never taking a single penny from victims or survivors, EOI continues to serve as a bridge to hope and healing across the globe.

Harold’s remarkable life journey is now gaining global cinematic attention. Bollywood is currently working on a blockbuster biopic inspired by his life for the silver screen. In addition, a powerful documentary titled “To Be Free” is being developed with acclaimed actor Martin Sheen serving as Executive Producer and produced and directed by Benjamin Ryan Nathan. The project aims to bring Harold’s story of survival, faith, and triumph to audiences worldwide, amplifying the urgent message of freedom and human dignity.

From being labeled “illegal” to being recognized as “inspirational,” Harold D’Souza has flipped the script of his life, transforming pain into purpose, hurt into happiness, slavery into success, fear into freedom, and trauma into triumph.

Today, he stands tall, not because of circumstances, but because of faith.

From being called “useless” to becoming a global voice for the voiceless, Harold D’Souza’s journey reminds the world: Survivors are Thrivers, and with faith, every pit becomes a pathway to purpose.
