Twin earthquakes in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Kashmir: 4.6 magnitude recorded

New Delhi, Feb 02: Earthquakes measuring 4.6 and 4.7 on the Richter scale were felt in Baramulla and Andaman and Nicobar Islands in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.

A 4.6 magnitude earthquake struck Andaman and Nicobar Islands at around 3.30 am today.

According to the National Centre for Seismology, the earthquake measuring 4.6 magnitude occurred in Andaman and Nicobar Islands at a depth of 10 km, with its epicentre at 9.03° north latitude and 92.78° east longitude.

Shortly after the earthquake in the island region, an earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale also occurred in Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the National Centre for Seismology, an earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale hit Kashmir’s Baramulla district at a depth of 10 km in the early hours of this morning. Its epicentre was located near Gulmarg and west of Srinagar.

There were no reports of any damage due to the earthquake so far, officials said.
