The Ministry of Road Transport and Highway has laid down new regulations to obtain the driving license.

With a aid of making the process for obtaining driving license easy and meticulously, the Ministry will implement new rules and regulations to its citizens.

Individuals can take the driving test nearest private driving centres of your choice instead of Government RTO's. The institutions will be given authorization to conduct the test and issue certificates.

New Rules for Private driving Schools- The centers should possess minimum one acre of land (2 acre for four wheelers training). Schools should provide suitable testing facilities. Trainer must have high school diploma (or equivalent), at least 5 years of driving experience, and be familiar with biometrics and IT systems.

Training hours- Light Motor Vehicles (LMV): 29 hours in 4 weeks, divided into 8 hours of theory and 21 hours of practical training.

Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMV): 38 hours in 6 weeks, divided into 8 hours of theory and 31 hours of practical training.

These regulations ensure a high standard of education and preparation for new drivers at private training schools

The new regulations focus on environment with aim to reduce pollution, 9000 old government vehicles will be put for scrap in batch wise and improve emission standards.

With this, penalties has also been made stricter, where driving vehicles without valid license, fines ranging from Rs.1000 to Rs. 2000.

If minor is found driving the vehicle then his parents will be fined with Rs. 25,000 and actions will be taken against parents along with cancelation of registration certificate of vehicle.

The documentation required for obtaining a driver's license has also been streamlined with specific necessities. This means the ministry will inform the applicants beforehand of the specific documents required for the type of license they are looking to obtain.

The application process for a driver's license remains the same. Applicants can submit their application online by visiting the official website of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways—https://parivahan.gov.in/. However, they can also visit their respective RTOs to file an application through a manual process.
