Moodubidire: Alva’s Health Centre, which has been serving the healthcare needs of the people of Moodubidire with a strong focus on community welfare, marked a major milestone with the inauguration of its Cardiac Centre on Wednesday.

Inaugurating the centre, Nitte Deemed-to-be University Chancellor and President of Nitte Education Institutions, N. Vinay Hegde, said the launch of a dedicated cardiac care facility at Alva’s Health Centre was a commendable initiative that would significantly strengthen regional healthcare services.
He noted that heart-related ailments had become increasingly common and could prove life-threatening in the absence of timely treatment. The availability of advanced cardiac care facilities in Moodubidire itself would reduce the need for patients to travel to distant cities, saving crucial time and lives.
Highlighting the broader role of education in societal development, Hegde said education should remain a service to humanity rather than a commercial enterprise. He pointed out that medical education, in particular, must be guided by values, ethics, compassion and social responsibility. Referring to policy challenges faced by private medical colleges, he observed that while 50% of seats were allotted under the government quota with comparatively low fees, institutions continued to bear high operational costs, including infrastructure, equipment, hospitals, faculty salaries and research, underscoring the need for greater governmental support.
A.J. Group of Institutions Chairman A.J. Shetty said the Cardiac Centre added a vital new dimension to the services offered by Alva’s Health Centre. Emphasizing that cardiac diseases often required urgent intervention, he said the presence of advanced facilities in this region would help save many lives.
Founder-Chairman of Kanachur Group of Institutions, Dr Haji U.K. Monu, described the establishment of a state-of-the-art cardiac facility in a small town as a remarkable achievement. He said the initiative would not only enhance healthcare delivery but also elevate the quality of medical education in the region.
Presiding over the program Alva’s Education Foundation Chairman, Dr M. Mohan Alva said he had never felt the need to leave his native place and had always aspired to serve his own people. Recalling the challenges he faced in life, he said perseverance and determination had helped him overcome difficulties and reach the present stage.
Dr. Alva said he had started Alva’s Health Centre in the 1980s with the objective of providing access to specialist medical services at minimal cost. He noted that the growth of the medical sector was significantly aided by private participation, but stressed that values, ethics, compassion and humanity should always take precedence over profit. “Ethics are our greatest asset,” he said.
Alva’s Education Foundation Trustee, Dr Vinay Alva, delivered the introductory address and welcomed the gathering.
Former Minister Abhayachandra Jain, Dean of Alva’s Medical College Dr Mahabala Shetty, General Surgeon Dr Harish Nayak, Head of Alva’s Cardiac Centre Dr Ditesh, and others were present.
