Japan: A court has sentenced the suspect to life imprisonment in the murder case of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was shot and killed by shooter Tetsuya while he was giving an election campaign speech in Nara, Japan on July 8, 2022. He died of bleeding in hospital after being hit by the bullet.
This was the first political assassination in Japan in decades. The suspect committed this act by claiming that the shooter had links with Abe and an organization he hated. Shinzo Abe was known as the longest-serving prime minister in Japan. He was prime minister from 2006-2007, 2012-2020.
Former Prime Minister Abe was shot in Nara. The shooter has been taken into custody. He was deeply unhappy with Shinzo Abe. It is said that he tried to kill him for the same reason.
Tetsuya Yamagami, 41, a resident of Nara City, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after shooting Shinzo Abe. In the footage broadcast on TV, Shinzo Abe can be seen collapsing from the gunshot wound. Several security guards immediately ran towards him. Abe can be seen clutching his chest as he collapsed. His shirt was soaked in blood.
Tetsuya Yamagami confessed to the murder during the trial that began in October. The court announced the verdict on Wednesday, sentencing him to life in prison. The accused said he killed the former leader after watching a video message sent by Abe to a group affiliated with the Unification Church.
Abe, one of Japan’s most influential politicians, was murdered while campaigning in the western city of Nara in 2022, while serving as a regular lawmaker after leaving the prime minister’s post.
