Mangalore: We have often seen videos going viral on social media about monkeys snatching mobile phones and water bottles from people at pilgrimage or tourist destinations and running away. But, have you ever heard of a monkey, who is known to be a vegetarian, breaking into a house for meat? In the Mannagudde area of Mangalore in Dakshina Kannada district, a non-veg-loving monkey has been breaking into houses and stealing meat, disturbing people’s sleep. Its favorite food is fish.

Unable to bear the menace of the non-veg-loving monkey, the residents of Kantaraj Lane in Mannagudde, Mangalore had complained to the forest department officials and the police. None of this was of any use. Residents who have been unable to bear the non-veg-loving monkey for the past two years have now written to the Mangalore Municipal Corporation and the MLAs expressing their distress.

The lone monkey has developed a taste for fish and meat and has made the area its permanent habitat. Locals have complained that it is causing trouble by entering houses, taking away food, clothes and other household items, and scaring residents.

There are trees on both sides of the road in Kantaraj Lane, and many houses are located near them. Local residents said that the monkey often jumps directly from these trees into the houses.

Recently, this monkey attacked Babita, a resident of Kantaraj Lane. Later, she had to go to the doctor and take 12 injections. The doctors have advised us to be careful about monkey attacks. Babita has appealed to the concerned authorities to save us from the problem.

The monkey chases the children when they go to school in the morning or return home in the evening. The women have lamented that this makes it difficult to send the children outside. It is said that the forest department staff has taken action by setting traps and snares to catch the monkey.
