Mangaluru, July 1: Three members of a family lost their lives after a mud retaining wall collapsed onto a tiled-roof house following heavy rainfall near Naguri in Kankanady during the early hours of Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as Anamika (8), Pari (4), and Shantha (46).
Three others—Balakrishna (48), Alka (14), and Anusha (11)—were rescued from the debris by the Fire and Emergency Services personnel and shifted to a hospital for treatment.

The family, originally from Bihar, had been residing in the house for nearly 20 years.
Deputy Commissioner Darshan H.V. visited the accident site, inspected the damage, and reviewed the rescue operations. MLA Vedavyas Kamath, MLA Padmaraj R. Poojary, and several other public representatives also visited the spot.
Health Minister U.T. Khader announced immediate compensation for the families of the deceased and stated that the Karnataka government would bear the medical expenses of those injured in the incident.
Authorities have begun further investigation into the cause of the wall collapse, while continuous heavy rainfall has raised concerns over the safety of vulnerable structures across the district.
